INTRODUCTION Throughout the last century, it was a consensus of opinion at a global scale concerning the loss of natural resources and the deterioration of environment as a result of human interventions and activities. Consequently, countries and international organizations started to take substantial measures to restore natural environment and to annihilate, or at least to minimize, the negative effects produced by human intervention. However, pollution constitutes one of the most serious problems confronting the whole world.
